Combined Fiber Techniques

My early works were mostly all hooked, though I used a variety of fabrics. After working on a book about early American sewn rugs (see book in shop) I became interested in using those techniques in combination with hooking or in some cases on their own.

On Alert

2015, 8" square, I have had horses, they are magical to me. I wanted to include this pattern in my book using a combination of techniques.

An Abundance

2015, 8” square, this is the cover project for my book Coils, Folds, Twists and Turns: Contemporary Techniques in Fiber.

Maze

2015, 12” x 15”, this is lengths of folded fabric wrapped around in a random manner and stitched with some coiled pieces used to fill in gaps and along the edge.

Red Fronds

2016, 18” x 36”, this was made for a juried exhibit, but alas it was rejected. I enjoyed making the coils and nestling them into the shirred fabric.

Hedgerows

2011, 29.5” x 31.5”, I left some of the linen foundation exposed, one side had been color treated and the other not (at the top). Some of the fringe is from the edges of the linen.

Wandering

2011, 9” x 9” x 3”, this was part of a juried show where all the entries had to be in a box that was 9×9×3. I entered three, two got in, I don’t think this was one of them. Again I let some of the linen foundation remain exposed.
